Technical Note
PROBLEM: I can receive my UAB DPO e-mail from home fine, but I cannot reply or send e-mail.

  • This can be tricky.  You should set the SMTP (outgoing) server to whatever is recommended by your ISP.
User Services may be reached by phone Monday-Friday from 8 am until 5 pm at 934-3540.

SOLUTION:

1. Configure your e-mail software to use your ISPs outgoing SMTP mail server.

2. Try our relay authorization

In some cases, (e.g.  you use a laptop both at work and home), it may make sense for you to continue using an SMTP server which is equally reachable whether you are on-campus or not.  This is available, but not without an extra step to authorize your access when you are off-campus.

If your ISP does not have a recommended SMTP server, then you can try using our relay authorization in order to send mail to non-UAB addresses.
