PROBLEM: How do I "INCLUDE A FULL SET OF E-MAIL HEADERS" when reporting e-mail abuse?
If you receive unsolicited e-mail, originating at UAB, in the form of for-profit advertising, or unwelcome or harrassing messages, you should notify UserServices. UAB's Network Usage Guidelines specifically prohibit the use of the UAB network for SPAM (E-mail junk mail) and describes other types of violations. SOLUTION: Locate the internet e-mail headers in: In order for us to track down the source of the abuse you received, we have to have the full set of headers, including all of the "Received:" lines which trace the path of the mail through the network. Without them, we cannot determine the actual origin point or time of transmission, and we cannot report it to the proper authorities or take action against the ABUSER. The best way to be sure User Services receives this information is to FORWARD the message and FULL HEADERS to UserServices@uab.edu, using your e-mail programs FORWARD button. When you FORWARD the message, insert your own words at the top of the message and paste the copied full set of headers before it gets sent. | ||
