Usenet is a vast collection of public discussion groups, which are available to almost anyone who has access to a networked computer. These groups cover practically every possible facet of human experience, from mundane to profane to political to highly technical.

Although UAB as a whole has never utilized Usenet to the extent found at some institutions, it is nevertheless a resource which can prove valuable for information exchange locally as well as from around the world.

UAB's general access News server is available at news.dpo.uab.edu — for security reasons it is only accessible from on-campus or when connected to the UAB VPN.
