Bulk Announcement Mailer
The current aim of this service is to provide dissemination of limited-size
information items to wide populations of the UAB community (think:
"send this out to all UAB employees and/or students"). It is
anticipated that these will typically be announcements of general
interest to all or most of the entire campus.Though BAMBAM distributions are currently handled on an ad-hoc basis, often at the direction of the UAB President or her designees, the long-term design anticipates that authorized persons will eventually initiate an announcement via an authenticated web form, and the item will then go through a series of approvals at the department, school, Provost/VP and perhaps other authority levels, prior to being scheduled for distribution.
The exact scope of BAMBAM has been revisited several times, due to the complexity of establishing a communication mechanism that is effective and minimally obtrusive to the general population. Related services such as PEBBLES and Here@UAB.edu are outgrowths from the efforts to refine this service's goals.
